Indie Teen Film To Save A Life to Release in Theatres 2010

Indie Teen Film To Save A Life to Release in Theatres 2010
Outreach, Inc to Launch Auxiliary Products to Retail in Fall of 2009

SAN DIEGO, CA July 6, 2009 Outreach Films and New Song Pictures are proud to announce the release of the indie feature film To Save A Life, opening theatrically nationwide January 2010.

To Save a Life is the story of an all-star athlete, Jake Taylor (Randy Wayne).  After a childhood friend’s death, Jake’s world spins out of control and he has to make changes in his life and sacrifice some dreams to save the lives of others.

To Save a Life stars Randy Wayne (The Dukes of Hazard, Foreign Exchange, The Last Hurrah), Deja Kreutzberg (CSI Miami, Law and Order, Hope and Faith), Kim Hidalgo (Ball Don’t Lie, Jimmy Kimmel Life, Scrubs) and Sean Afable (Channels, Akeelah and the Bee, Phil of the Future.)

Director, Brian Baugh (D.P.:  The Ultimate Gift, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Lost Medallion), is joined by Grammy winner Charlie Peacock as music supervisor, and Grammy, Emmy and Interactive Academy Award winning composers Christopher Lennertz and Timothy Wynn creating the score.

Jim Britts, the screenwriter of the film, and graduate of BIOLA’s prestigious film school, wrote the script to tell the story of the choices and challenges he sees teens facing today. Britts said “We hope that To Save a Life can truly help give a voice to the hurting, and inspire this generation to make a difference in the lives of those around them.”

Inspired by the film, Outreach, Inc has produced a series of products that will help students and those who care for them to break down the barriers that often divide communities, and help others who are hurting in their communities.

Materials available at retail will include:
To Save A Life novel
Soundtrack to the film
Devo2Go, a 36 day interactive audio devotional featuring weekly “guides” including Jack and Leeland Moring from the band Leeland, former NFL great Miles McPherson and teen abolitionist and author, Zach Hunter
A companion Curriculum Kit
To Save A Life Movie Resource Kit
Official wearables and accessories

The creators of To Save A Life are launching a leader’s site to provide a multitude of helps for parents, youth workers and teens.  These materials are focused on opening discussion, and providing help to those who may need more information on some of the sensitive topics covered in the film.  www.ToSaveALifeLeaders.com will also provide information about organizing group events surrounding the film and building what could be the largest outreach for teens many churches have ever undertaken.

  1. Could you give me the titles of the seven week curriculum that is to be released in October.  I would love to put that information I’m sending out to parents in our Master Caledar for this years youth group programming.

  2. I previewed the movie tonight.  I believe that I am “Jake” running out in front of the police car to stop a some great people from making a mistake and to preserve his friend’s life.  I love teenagers, and I applaud the much-needed messages in that movie.  And I know very well that the actions of the actors in the movie portray the lives that so many teenagers live today.  However, and please hear my heart, this movie is going to be publicized as a Christian movie—of course.  But when our Lord’s name is placed on this, yet the curse words and sensuality are there…  I’m not sure if the actors in the scenes were Christians in real life or not, but if so, then those were real Christians saying real curse words and real Christians involvedin real sensuality on the screen.  If the actors were not Christian, then still I appeal to the director, producers, editors, whoever might listen…kids are smart enough to understand that the language and sensuality exist in real life and can be portrayed in the movie as very real, without having the actual curse words said and the actual sensuality played out full screen in front of their eyes.  The drinking scenes can be done without actual drinking easily, and I’m sure it was.  The meanness can just be an act, and there be no sin in any of it, but to do the swearing and sensuality, actors actually have to sin, not just portray sin, in order to play that part of the movie.  I plead with you as Jake running in front of the police car, please before youth pastors across the country herd kids by the bus-loads to the theaters, please count the cost of that part of the message that will be sent to the kids we love so dearly.  Please consider any deleting, editing, dubbing possible that could make this movie not only a great outreach tool,  but also a sacrificial act of worship to lay at the feet of our Lord, even if it takes more time or money. I love you guys, and thank you for hearing my heart.

  4. With films like Kids and Thirteen pushing boundaries further than ever before, filmmaker Lisa Ades sets out to find out just how the filmmakers approach to this super-sensitive topic has changed over the years.
