When TO SAVE A LIFE opened at Modesto’s Brendan Theater, the walking mall plaza in front was a sea of outreach. About 2,000 people attended, listening as four bands performed and visiting booths with banners such as Life Matters, You Matter, and Family Matters. “One man named Ed was contemplating his usefulness and worth to his family and six kids,” says Buddy Gray, a pastor and organizer of the event. “He decided to go home and not end it all after talk to a local pastor.”
TO SAVE A LIFE was not originally scheduled to open in Modesto. But local businessmen, youth workers, and pastors rallied together to form a Lifeline Squad and bring the movie to their community. “The event was a great success,” Gray says. “Many people received information and many people sought out the counsel of our care providers.”
